2nd PLACE SECURED

What a result.... a 2-0 victory at home to Drefach with myself the Sharkster and Wayne 'Trix' Williams grabbing the goals. I know it's been over a week since my last post but I have been so nervous about this match that I couldn't bring myself to write anything for fear of putting a hoodoo on us. Following Dafen's 2-1 win against Trostre on Thursday we needed a victory against a resurgent Drefach. After the season we have had it would not have been fair to have finished outside of the top two. And so it was on the 16.04.05 that BPAFC finished their most successful season ever. And we didn't win a single trophy, just plenty of respect.

After dominating the 1st half and starting well in the 2nd half it just seemed that 2nd place was never going to be, with nerves fraying and two of the biggest whingers up front for Drefach it was becoming increasingly risky business. Then on what must have been about our 6th corner, El Sharko pops up on his usual near post run to plant a diving header past the hapless keeper. Get in their ya beauty. Drefach started to push on again, and nearly got the equaliser only for the whinging striker to place his shot over the bar after turning well outside the box. Then up popped Trix with the decisive goal in the last 10 minutes to settle all the nerves. We had done it, broken the stranglehold of the top two and moved in between Dafen and Seaside. Now for the big push next season, beating these two.

A big thanks from all the squad to our fitness coach and all round legend Phil Mogs. If it wasn't for you Moggsy we wouldnt have had the legs to do as well as we have THANKS!

And a big pat on the back for Craig and Jono what a partnership well done guys. Last but not least well done to the whole squad for working so hard throughout the whole season, like Phil said before Saurdays game, if it was down to hard work and effort we would have won this league.

Not To be :(

Ah well it wasn't to be yesterday, it seemed like the gods...and the ref felt that finishing higher than Dafen wasn't going to happen this week. A 1-1 scoreline away against one of the'Big Two' is not a result to be sniffed at but after a tremendous 2nd half performance which saw us take the lead through the returning Luke Jenkins we thought we were on course to break the hold of Dafen and Seaside and become a cert for the 2nd place position, it wasn't to be however as in the dying moments Stuart Evans managed to equalise for Dafen and break Burry Port hearts in the process. We now move onto Saturday and the home fixture against Drefach which is sure to be a classic, both teams can finish in 2nd but if we can defeat them and get the 3 points no-one can beat us to that final champions league spot :) Not even Trostre or Dafen, or Drefach, or Gorseinon......christ what a finale to the season.

The Big Day

Well here we are, it's 8:50 am on Saturday morning and by 4:30 we will know whether 2nd place is ours or whether we have to go to the last game of the season. I'm just about to settle down for Sky Sports 1's excellent Soccer AM which is just one part of my Saturday routine. Waking up with a hangover is another, yet I've been a good boy the last 2 weeks switching to squash at about 9:30. Not that its ideal but why fix something when it ain't broke. It should be interesting today we have got everybody fit and available following the end of Gareth Davies and Luke Jenkins' suspension last weekend.

Good Luck to the 2nds who play Loughor at home today, they'll need it with the fact that last night Andrew Joinson, Gareth Shaw, Dylan Evans and Ian 'Jacksy Smith' were all doubtful with injuries.

2nd team suffer

What can I say, I saw only 5 mins of last nights big derby between Burry Port 2nds and Pwll. I can only apologise for not watching any more than that but I was out on the lash, bad mistake as I was an hour and a half late for work today.......You B*****d.

The team that was selected should have won comfortably, Luke Jenkins and Gareth Davies drafted in for their comeback games following their 3 game suspensions, Little Deco and Jacksy with the Joinson brothers, Luke Muir, McCabe Gar Shaw, shit!!! this would have been a 1st XI a couple of seasons ago and not one player i've named there is over 28....what happened, it was 1-0 to Pwll if anyone missed the scoreline. With regards me missing work this morning, big time apologies to Clive, my boss, bang out of order.

Good luck to all involved with the 2nd team on Saturday against Loughor, lets hope all the arguing can finish and you realise how close you are to going up, it's still in your hands guys come on the hit squad!!!! As for the 1st XI what must be billed as the biggest game of the season, Dafen away on Saturday for the last automatic Champions League place.....haha, no in all seriousness, if we can secure 2nd place by beating Dafen on Saturday it would be up there with winning promotion against Whitland or watching Kidwelly go down to Division 2 instead of us.....oh what a day!!! See ya soon.

A New Dawn

Welcome to the new and unused Weblog or 'blog of Burry Port AFC. Here I'll be detailing recent goings on in BPAFC life and other little things that are of interest to the football club. Who am I?? Barry McFarlane 26 yr old Centre Half, i've been playing for BPAFC since I was 16 and i'm surely up for a testimonial next season....if only we had them. Burry Port play in the Premier Division of the Carmarthenshire League, you can check out our progress at http://www.westwalessport.com/Soccer.shtml The club has been around for about 28 years now. and is currently enjoying its most succesful season ever. As I write this the 1st team are currently 2nd in the Premier Division, and made the last 16 of the West Wales Cup which is our F.A. Cup, the 2nd XI made it to the quarter finals of the Darch Cup and currently occupy 3rd spot in Reserve Division Two. In terms of trophies we won our 1st championship 2 seasons ago when we won the 1st Division title and thats about it. There we have our little introduction to BPAFC. Hope you enjoy
